CORRECTION - This article initially reported that only Director Dale Erickson voted against moving the Westside's July 4th fireworks display to July 6th. Director Rosemary Weber reports that she also voted against the motion. The text below has been changed to reflect this information. The Times regrets the error.

SLWLA LogoJack Stevens was elected President of the Seven Lakes West Landowners Association [SLWLA] during the regular Tuesday, March 26 meeting of the Board of Directors.

Bruce Keyser will serve as Vice President, with newcomers to the Board, Dale Erickson and Brian Benjamin, taking on the roles of Treasurer and Secretary.

Board members made those nominations in an organizational meeting early Tuesday evening, and then approved the appointments in a secret ballot vote during the regular meeting.

Committee assignments for returning members will remain essentially unchanged, resulting in the following lineup of responsibilities:

Dan Blue - Architectural Review

Ed Cockman - Safety & Security

Bruce Keyser - Lake & Dam

Jim Pierman - Infrastructure

Rosemary Weber - Community Events

Brian Benjamin - Communications

Dale Erickson - Finance, Insurance, and Long Range Planning.

Chuck Watkins - Legal Affairs and Judicial Panel

Community Manager Mendence will continue to serve as liaison to the Amenities Committee.

The Board approved the rosters of each committee during Tuesday's meeting, except for Long Range Planning. Former Treasurer Don Freiert disbanded that committee pending Board elections, and the Directors planned to discuss its mission and composition during a closed executive session Tuesday night.

The Board voted to name former SLWLA President Mick Herdrich as co-Community Advocate, serving alongside Ed Silberhorn, presenting evidence before the Judicial Panel.

Benjamin noted that former Secretary Jane Sessler had agreed to serve on the Communications Committee and continue as the webmaster for the SLWLA website.

Director Watkins was absent from the meeting.

Fireworks moved to July 6

The SLWLA Directors voted six to two, with Erickson & Weber opposed, to move the Fourth of July Fireworks display to Saturday, July 6, allowing it to serve as the climax of the holiday weekend -- as well as saving the Association $1,250.

Community Manager Jeanette Mendence explained that the fireworks vendor offered the same quality show as last year for $12,250 on July 4, or for $11,000 on July 6. Erickson questioned the wisdom of continuing the fireworks display, suggesting that the money would be better spent rebuilding the Association's reserves.
