Moore County LogoMoore County's long-awaited Unified Development Ordinance [UDO] will have to wait a little longer.

The Board of Commissioners will postpone their review and approval of the UDO -- which combines into a single ordinance regulations that are currently spread across separate Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances -- until after a revision of the County's Land Use Plan is complete.

“We got the cart before the horse,” Planning Director Debra Ensminger told members of the Moore County Planning Board during their Thursday, January 10 meeting. The Planning Staff and PLanning Board spent a good bit of 2012 working on the UDO.

The Land Use Plan is being revised by a Steering Committee led by PLanning Board Chairman Robert Hayter. They are expected to complete their work in June.

Ensminger said the Commissioners have commended the work that has been done on the UDO.

Commissioners will attend meetings

The Board of Commissioners will soon have a new window into the operations of the Planning Board. Ensminger told Planning Board members during Thursday's meeting that a County Commissioner will be sitting in on every Planning Board meeting.

“They won’t be here to micromanage,” said Ensminger, “rather, to show their support.

Ensminger requested Commissioner presence at Planning Board meetings during the Commissioners Retreat at the beginning of January.

Commissioners Jimmy Melton and Larry Caddell will rotate attendance at Planning Board meetings.

Ballfield Building Approved

In other business during Tuesday's meeting, the Planning Board unanimously approved a 144 square foot expansion of an existing accessory building near the ballfield at West Pine Middle School.

Coach Jeremy Kuhn told the Board the expansion will be used for landscaping and baseball equipment.

Planning Board approval was required because the existing building was allowed under a conditional use permit. The building expansion required an amendment of that permit.

The Planning Board will next meet on Thursday, February 7.
