•    Trunk or Treat at WEPC! – 5:30 to 7:30 p.m, West End Presbyterian Church will be hosting a “Trunk or Treat” for the entire community. The event will be held in the parking lot of the Crawford Activity Center and in the center itself. Children of all ages are invited to come “trunk or treating” through the parking lot and then come inside the Crawford Activity Center to play games, do a craft, and win prizes. Church deacons also will be selling chili and hot dog dinners, with proceedsgoing to an upcoming middle school urban mission trip. For more information call the church office at 673-4341. A concert by Frederick Moyer and Nancy Green, both grandchildren of North Carolina playwright Paul Green, will be the program. Moyer is an internationally famous pianist and Ms. Green plays the cello. •    Robert M. Edsel - “The Monuments Men” – 7:30 pm, Ruth Pauley Lecture Series, in Owens Auditorium - Sandhills Community College Campus. As Hitler was attempting to conquer the western world, his armies were methodically pillaging the finest art in Europe, from Michelangelo and Da Vinci to Van Eycks and Vermeers, all stolen for the Führer. The Monuments Men had a mandate from President Roosevelt and the support of General Eisenhower to try to recover these treasures, but were given no resources or real authority. In a race against time, each man gathered scraps and hints to construct his own treasure map . Robert M. Edsel is the author of the nonfiction book, Rescuing Da Vinci and also The Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History. He is widely recognized as a leading authority on the history of the Nazis looting of Europe during World War II and the efforts of the Monuments Men to recover these lost treasures.

Wednesday, November 3
•    Project Linus Workshop - 10 am to 3 pm North Clubhouse. We will be working with fleece to make blankets, inspect blankets and label blankets. Supplies will be furnished. If you are not interested in blanket mak ing, then join us in November to work on selected crafts to be sold during the St. Mary Magdalene “Merry Market.”  We will have all of the supplies and tools to do the crafts. •    White Elephant Sale – 8 am to 1 pm. Annual White Elephant Sale & Raffle sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary of Sacred Heart Church. Sale will be in Founders Hall adjacent to the Church at Rte. 211 and Dundee Rd, Pinehurst. On Friday November 5, 2 to 6 pm, there will be a Pre-Sale of furniture and outdoor items only.  Bake Sale and purchase a raffle ticket for a chance to win one of 100 great prizes. •    Fall Festival – First Presbyterian Church, Carthage, 9 am - 2 pm, held at The Carthage Community Building 203 W. Barrett Street. (The stone building across from the McDonald Building). Festival will include: handmade crafts, art works, homemade baked goods, canned goods, homemade candies, plants, gently used treasures and good food. Raffle drawing for a “Bear Paw” Quilt will be at 2 pm. Anyone interested in purchasing raffle tickets for the quilt may contact Joan MacLean at 910-420-2612. Entertainment 11  am to 12pm, provided by The Crawley Creek Company Band. All proceeds to benefit the church building fund.

•    Crossroads to be Guest Quartet – at the Golf Capital Chorus’ annual show at the Pinecrest High School auditorium, at 7 pm. Crossroads will be the latest in a long line of champion quartets presented by the Golf Capital Chorus. This occasion represents the largest fundraising event in the chorus’ annual calendar. Tickets for this year’s show are available from any chorus member, at the Campbell House, or from Vern Pherson at 246-6551.
