95, of Seven Lakes, died Monday, March 21, at his home, surrounded by family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, March 24 at the Seven Lakes Chapel in the Pines.

Born to the late Albert F. Letter and Hulda Stoffer Letter of St. Louis, Missouri, Mr. Letter was preceded in death by brothers Elmer Letter, Arthur Letter and Robert Letter; sister Virginia Letter Dunn; and sons John E Letter, Jr. and Mark S. Letter.

Mr. Letter graduated from South Side Catholic High School in St. Louis, and received a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy in Rolla, Missouri.

In 1982 Mr. Letter retired from Anheuser-Busch, Inc. in St. Louis, after working for 35 years in various positions from process control in the laboratory, to Corporate Quality Control Manager, Plant Manager of the breweries in both Los Angeles, California and Williamsburg, Virginia, and eventually Director of Plant Operations overseeing all the Anheuser-Busch breweries.

Mr. Letter served on various boards for industry, business, and banking. After moving to North Carolina with his wife Nancee in 1985, he enjoyed serving on the boards of Seven Lakes Country Club, Seven Lakes Landowners Association, and Seven Lakes Tennis Club, as well as being a long time member of the First Health Foundation Financial Committee.

Mr. Letter was an avid tennis player and he thoroughly enjoyed the relationships he formed in North Carolina with friends, neighbors and associates.  He said many times that he had chosen the very best environment in which to retire.
